The AT this far north is showing signs of its real self. The rocks on the trail are bigger and more numerous. Same with the roots. After an early start at 6:30am, feeling fresh, I ascended to Rainbow Mtn. at 1550′ where I caught some nice views while eating some of Cindy’s nutritious granola. I have hiked 33.6 miles since starting the journey.
I noticed the sound of bird calls in the forest. Osprey along Rainbow Lake and songbirds. The AT followed the shoreline of several lakes where I walked today. I was hoping to see a moose like AT northbound thru-hiker Pickles did today. But I had no luck.
I completed 15 miles today. Before looking for a campsite I stopped along Pollywog Stream to cook my favorite dinner: thin spaghetti and tomato sauce. Enjoying trail food on the AT is my intention, and this meal was the best. After the meal I was free to stroll up the trail and choose a camp without a source of water. A small clearing along the Pollywog Gorge Rim is perfect! The early evening sun made my chocolate bar taste even better. High above the Stream there are fewer mosquitoes.
As I lay in my tent the songbirds make me appreciate the fulfilling day of hiking and the restful evening. The harmonious sounds of the AT are calling me to sleep soundly in this delightful camp in the forest.
Everything is so peaceful…it seems, that only a forest elf can disturb the peace…I took the young girl for the elf, at the very first glance at the post))) She’s too harmoniously fit into woodland at your photo)
Great stuff, thanks for the vicarious thrills! Look forward to seeing you in Waynesboro!

Yes! I am looking forward to meeting you when I get south to Virginia!
Great progress Bro Roger. Keep it up and stay safe.
How did you loose your pole?
On Day 2 the tip of the pole slid on a rock while I was rock hopping across a very small stream. I lost balance and leaned too heavy on the pole. They break too easily. Oh, well!
