The 1200-mile Ice Age Trail (IAT) trail can best be described as a route that follows the southern extent of the glacial moraines created by the ice age that ended about 10,000 years ago. I will begin a thru-hike on March 24, 2025 at the western terminus in St. Croix, Wisconsin, hike more or less eastbound until the trail turns south, and then northeast starting in Janesville to the eastern terminus in Sturgeon Bay.
The entire IAT is within the state of Wisconsin, the state where my grandmother was born and raised. Wisconsin is also where my family visited for vacations in the lake resort town of Three Lakes. We also lived in Janesville between 1959 and 1961. I will be see Wisconsin in a new and adventurous way. I will let my blog posts describe the landscape and communities I will see and visit. I expect to complete the hike of the entire IAT in 2.5 months.
