Day 70, August 31: First views of Connecticut

I rose from the tent in cool, dry morning air and looked forward to entering yet another state. The climb to Mt. Everett (2,602′) was pleasant. The best views were not from the summit of Everett but rather the open ledges near Mt. Race. The valley to the east had farms. pastures, bogs, ponds and lakes. As far as my eyes could see it was springtime green in bright sun.

Several miles further I reached Sage Ravine, a beautiful, shady valley with huge, old trees and a gentle stream flowing east into the valley I gazed upon from the ledges less than two hours before.

Sage Ravine.

I entered Connecticut after climbing up to the top of Bear Mountain. At that point in the mid afternoon I got locked in to getting into Salisbury, CT where I would stay in the home of a resident. 92 year old Maria McCabe has been hosting hikers for 20 years. I am happy I did!

  2. Great pictures of the beautiful views! Hope the rain is not too bad today.

  3. I stayed 2 nights with Maria McCabe in 2014. I had no idea she was that old. It was a very restful, much needed stopover in a cute, picturesque town.
